Eastgate is a small, forest-bound community straddling Highway 3. We are just outside the eastern border of Manning Provincial Park in an identified interface fire area.
In the early 1980s, concerns about fire hazard and the lack of immediate access to emergency response resources led residents to create the Eastgate Residents Association, which in 1993, following fundraising for the purchase of a fire truck, became the Eastgate Fire Protection Society (EFPS).

The scope of EFPS has grown over the years. Power is often disrupted due to falling trees, motor vehicle accidents and system/switch failures. In the 2021/2022 winter season, our community was without power for more than 400 hours. One of our successful fundraising efforts was to purchase a generator to provide backup power at our Firehall so that we have a community building with heat, light, hot water and emergency radio communications during these extended
power outages and other emergency situations.
The Eastgate Firehall not only houses our community fire equipment but also serves as a hub and staging point for emergency operations, public information, registration and
relief supplies during civil emergencies. A long-term power outage without a backup power source would render this facility less effective or potentially ineffective for these
necessary community support purposes.
The purpose of EFPS is:
- to work towards a FireSmart community
- to be a community resource to promote preparedness, hazard reduction, and
support communications and response to emergencies such as fire, flood or
prolonged power outages - to promote community participation in society activities
Our Vision is:
- Neighbours working together, to create a caring, connected and resilient community where all are safe and valued
Our Values are:
- Safety
- Respect
- Mutual cooperation
- Inclusion
- Participation
